General
Beyond the laboratory, participants also enjoy a rich developmental program that includes workshops and exercises on improving communications skills, and workshops on ethical issues in science and engineering. Students are provided additional information on how to apply for graduate school. Students will also have the opportunity to meet with industrial scientists, and to tour local industry.
An active social and recreational program is also part of the REU experience. It includes picnics, organized hikes, trips to the seacoast, cultural trips to nearby metropolitan areas, and many informal social events, enabling participants to enjoy New England summer beauty. Many of these activities are conducted jointly with students in parallel REU summer programs in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Sciences, and Physics at UConn.
